Course Summary
There are 4 components to this course:
- Applied Anatomy and Physiology
- Psychological and Social Principals of PE
- Practical Performance
- Performance Analysis and Performance Development Programme
Course Details
Component 1: Applied Anatomy and Physiology. Students will understand the anatomical/structural and physiological/functional roles performed in the identified systems of the body. The principles of Newton’s Three Laws of Motion – force, centre of mass and stability. Students will understand concepts of energy and how they relate to physical activity and sport.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
70% from two exams (Components 1 and 2)
30% from Practical and Coursework (Components 3 and 4)
Entry requirements
5 GCSE or equivalent grades at 4 or above. Grades 5 in English, Science and PE are preferable although cases will be looked at individually.

This course complements other Advanced Level courses such as Science. It will also prepare you for Higher Education in areas such as Sport Science and Sport Studies. With further training these courses could lead into a variety of careers related to Physical Education and Sport Science such as: Physiotherapist, PE Teacher, Exercise and Fitness Trainer or Sports Development Officer, Nutritionist and many more.
