Course Summary
We are excited to bring A Level Politics to this year’s cohort!
Lively, relevant, controversial…there are many ways to describe A-level politics and it is considered an interesting and highly engaging qualification. Covering current affairs from the UK and the US as well as past elections and events, this will help you understand the UK and US political system, whilst developing your research, communication and debating skills.
Course Details
The A Level Politics qualification has three exam-assessed units which will be completed at the end of the 2 years.
The units on which you will be examined are:
Paper 1 – Government and Politics in the UK. This option allows students to study the UK Political System in depth. Topics included range from:
Our Constitution
The role of Parliament
Political Parties
Devolution
The role of the Judiciary
Paper 2 – Government and Politics in the USA with Comparative Study. This option allows students to study the USA Political System and then comparing this to the UK. Topics range from:
US Constitution
The role of the President
Their electoral system
Civil Rights
Paper 3 – Political Ideas. This option explores key ideologies that affect our political systems. These will include:
Liberalism
Conservatism
Socialism
1 other (Anarchism, Ecologism, Feminism, Multiculturalism, Nationalism)
Entry requirements
Students will require a minimum of five 9-4 grades at GCSE, including English and a grade 6 in either History or English Language.

Politics is a highly considered A Level due to the skills needed. It is idea if you’re considering studying politics, sociology, ethics, journalism or law. It is very highly regarded by employers in all fields, but especially in media, government, the civil service, banking and advertising. is a very sought after A Level because of its transferable skills. This means it is a subject that is a requirement or a preferred option for a variety of degrees such as Law, Classics, Philosophy and Theology. Some careers that lead from a History A level or History degree are Law as a Solicitor or Barrister, Teaching, Advertising, Banking or Journalism.
