Course Summary

Economics A level is an excellent choice to complement Business and/or Maths.

This course is most appropriate for those students who have a strong interest in the world around them and have a wish to progress to Higher Education, studying an Economics/Business based course.

Macro Economics

The national and international economy

How the macro-economy works: the circular flow of income, AD/AS analysis and related concepts

Economic performance

Financial markets and monetary policy

Fiscal policy and supply-side policies

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment Information:

Entry requirements for this A level course require students to achieve a grade 6 for English and grade 5 for Mathematics.

Students must also be prepared for the fact that this course is entirely assessed by examination at the end of two years of study.

Paper 1: Markets and Market failure

Paper 2: National and international economy

Paper 3: Economic principals and issues


Entry requirements

Students will require a minimum of five 9-5 grades at GCSE, including English Literature at grade 6 and Mathematics at grade 5.

Future Opportunities:

Students can take this course alongside other Level 3 courses and progress to study Business Studies and Economics or other courses at university. Alternatively, the skills that have been learnt will enable students to work effectively in the workplace if they choose to move on to an apprenticeship or job in industry. The course will combine well with any other Level 3/A-Level subject and will help all students prepare for every possible career.
