Course Summary
Product design is designed to encourage students to develop a broad understanding of design and technology and to develop their skills to design and make products fit for a purpose and meet the needs and wants of their chosen client. The course will also teach the complex relations between design, materials, manufactures and marketing.
Course Details
This is a two year linear course, which will consist of theory and practical, both will be taught alongside one another. Year 12 will consist of a range of independent projects to teach a variety of skills, processes and promote creative thinking.
During the NEA task, which will start in June, students will have the opportunity to showcase their innovative ideas and skills by designing and making a prototype of a commercially, viable and feasible product. This will need to be researched, designed, developed, tested, manufactured and evaluated in an iterative way.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Paper 1: Technical Principle (30% of final grade)
Paper 2: Designing & Making Principles (20% of final grade)
NEA - practical application of technical principles, designing and making principles. (50% of final grade)
Examinations are all taken at the end of Year 13. The NEA will start in Year 12 and be completed by the Easter of Year 13 for submission to the exam board.
