Level 3 - 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or higher including English and Mathematics.

Transition - 5 GCSEs at grade 3 or higher. Either English or Mathematics must be at a grade 4.

Course Summary

Why study this?

Big questions will be asked and attempted to be answered!

In this course you will study religious beliefs, ancient and current philosophical matters, and will argue your view. Topics covered include: arguments for the existence of god; evil and suffering; conscience; sources of ethics; free will and moral responsibility; conscience; sources of wisdom and authority; secularization; and religious pluralism

Course Details

The course comprises of two components:

Component 1: Philosophy of religion and ethics

Component 2: Study of religion and dialogues (Christianity)

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Component 1:

  • 3 hour paper, worth 100 marks
  • A range of questions worth 10,15 and 25 marks
  • Selection of questions on a) Philosophy of Religion and b) Ethics

Component 2

  • 3 hour paper, worth 100 marks
  • A range of questions worth 10, 15 and 25 marks
  • A selection of questions on a) Christianity and b) philosophy of Christianity

Entry requirements

Grade 6 or above in English and a grade 5 or above in Mathematics
