Entry requirements: • All students must gain 5 passes at Grade 4 or above at GCSE (or the equivalent for vocational qualifications) including a pass in English and / or Maths.

This course draws upon your understanding of the contemporary world and it is therefore advisable to take an interest in current affairs and social issues in general. Analytical skills, a high level of literacy and skills in extended writing are necessary for this subject.

• Paper 1: Education with Theory and Methods

• Paper 2: Topics in Sociology (Families & Households, Beliefs in Society)

• Paper 3: Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods

The 3 units of study will be assessed by 3 external examinations at A Level.

Each written exam lasts for 2 hours and is worth 33.3% of the final grade.

Exams will involve extended essay writing.

There is no coursework component.

Grade 4 in Sociology OR Grade 4 in English if new to subject.

This level 3 qualification provides a basis for progression to University to study at Degree level. Sociology complements study alongside a wide range of other A level options. Sociology is a useful qualification for those who wish to pursue careers in social work, teaching, journalism and the media and the criminal justice system.
