Course Summary

Ever wondered how we developed into the society we are today? How the way you see yourself determines the way people identify you? Whether men or women are more likely to commit a crime?

Sociology will help you to make sense of the society we live in and understand the cultural and identity issues which affect us all.

You will learn a number of skills including the use of evidence to support your arguments, fact investigation and critical thinking. Sociology is relevant to the society you live in, so you are bound to enjoy learning about topics that are relevant to everyday life; plus, it opens the door to a fantastic range of interesting careers.

In the first year you will study:

  • Education
  • Research Methods
  • Families and Households

In the second year you will broaden your understanding of society by studying:

  • Crime and Deviance
  • Theory and Methods
  • Beliefs in Society

How will it be delivered and assessed?

There will be three exams that will each account for one third of your A Level grade. The exams consist of a mixture of short answer and extended writing questions.

Entry requirements

At least five GCSEs graded 9-5 including English at grade 4 or above.

Equipment required

There may be trips that will enrich the curriculum that may incur additional costs.
