Students will have the opportunity to acquire knowledge and a critical understanding of contemporary society. This course would suit students who wish to examine the world in which we live in today and how it is changing.

Students will study family, education, crime and deviance, beliefs in society and sociological methods over 2 years. They will be examined by the end of the 2 years.

Assessment Methods: 3 written papers, each 2 hours.

Overall requirement for Post 16:

5 GCSEs (English and mathematics grade 4). Max 2 BTECs at merit can count.

Subject specific requirements:

Grade 6 in history, geography, RE, English

Sociology is recognised by universities as an academic A Level. With Sociology you will be able to pursue careers in law, civil service and journalism.
