Entry Requirements - For entry into year 12 to begin A Level and/or vocational courses, students must meet the minimum requirements in English and Mathematics (grade 4), however most courses require significantly higher grades in certain other GCSE subjects to access them.

Students are required to study a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 subjects.

Course Summary

Why study the subject
Students study technological and social change, looking at diversity and the benefits it brings. They will study highlights of Spanish speaking artistic culture, including hispanophone music and cinema, and learn about political engagement and who wields political power in the Spanish speaking world. Students also explore the influence of the past on present day Spanish speaking communities. Throughout their studies, they will learn the language in the context of Spanish speaking countries and the issues and influences which have shaped them. Students will study texts and literature and have the opportunity to carry out independent research on an area of their choice.

Skills Acquired
Knowledge of the language and culture of other European countries is an important skill in the commercial world. Even though your main interest and career may be a commercial specialism, this course will enable you to talk to Spanish speaking citizens in their own language.

Students suited to the course
Communication skills and a willingness to express ideas in speech and in writing on a wide range of topics, to learn and use the language for real purpose.

What other subjects it combines well with
There are many courses which include a language component such as Business Studies, History, Geography, as well as Art and other creative subjects.

  • One of four themes i.e. aspects of Spanish speaking society: current trends, aspects of Spanish speaking society: current issues, artistic culture in the Spanish speaking world, aspects of political life in the Spanish speaking world

GCSE grade 6 in Spanish.

Whatever you choose to do in the future, you will find that the things you learn in this course will help you to be open new opportunities internationally. For example, you could work or study abroad or work in an international company in the UK. Spanish A Level can lead to further study of the subject at university. Languages are often offered as part of a dual degree e.g. Management and Spanish.
