Entry Requirements - Candidates are required to obtain a minimum of 35 points from their best six GCSE subjects or equivalent (in the view of the School).
• Points will be on a 1-9 point scale, where Grade 1=1 and 2=2 etc.
• Candidates must also obtain at least a Grade 5 in English and Maths at GCSE or equivalent (in the view of the School).
Candidates must meet the specific requirements for each A Level course they wish to study as published in the 2025 Sixth Form Prospectus, which will be available on the website.

Course Summary
This course is suitable for candidates who have acquired the knowledge, understanding and skills specified for GCSE at Higher tier but can also be undertaken by candidates who have followed an alternative route to language study at this level. Candidates take two units for the AS GCE and then take a further two units to achieve the full Advanced GCE Award.
The AS specification enable candidates to:
Develop an understanding of spoken and written Spanish beyond GCSE; communicate effectively in Spanish in a variety of registers; develop knowledge of and critical insights into the culture, heritage and contemporary society of Spain or a Spanish-speaking country.
At AS, you will cover the following topics:
(a) Leisure and Lifestyles, including travel and tourism, sport, hobbies, entertainment, customs, traditions, healthy living – health and nutrition, diet and exercise; unhealthy living - drugs, aids, smoking, alcohol, etc.
(b) The Individual and Society, including relationships and responsibilities, gender issues, youth culture (values, peer groups, fashions and trends etc.), education, vocational training and future careers.
At A2, you will cover the following topics:
(c) Environmental Issues
(d) Social and Political Issues
(e) Film studies
Course Details

For the new A Level (current Y12), candidates completing a two year course now sit all the papers at the end of A2 in Y13.
The Spanish A level specification enables candidates to:
Develop an advanced level knowledge and understanding of the Spanish language, the culture of Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries, as well as practical and valuable language and transferable study skills.

Level 7 in GCSE Spanish.

This course will help to prepare students for higher education in Spanish and enhance their employability. With further training, you could go into a job requiring knowledge of Spanish or languages such as teaching, translating, international business or you may wish to use your Spanish to study or work over in Spain.
