Entry Requirements: Some courses have additional entry requirements. These can be found on the prospectus.

Level 3 - 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or higher including English and Mathematics.

Transition - 5 GCSEs at grade 3 or higher. Either English or Mathematics must be at a grade 4.

Studying Spanish A level builds upon and furthers the acquisition of language skills and knowledge acquired at GCSE. It not only familiarises the student with the language but also its country - the culture, it's customs and traditions. Students develop an awareness of current events and contemporary society in Spain and other Spanish speaking countries

The course is comprised of the following themes:

• Aspects of Hispanic society

• Multiculturalism in Hispanic society

• Artistic culture in the Hispanic world

Paper 1 External examination- 2hrs 30 mins: Listening, reading and writing 50%

Paper 2 External examination- 2 hrs Writing 20%

Paper 3 Speaking examination- 21-23mins Individual research project. Discussion of a sub- theme

30%

Grade 6 or above in GCSE Spanish. Native or fluent speakers may request an interview with the Head of Languages.
