Course Summary
Sport & fitness is a huge industry, and you can be part of it. If you’re keen on sport you can make a career from your passion. Whether that’s working for a football club, as a personal trainer at the local gym, or training to be a physiotherapist, there are lots of opportunities. From professional sport through to amateur teams and individuals who just want to get in shape, sport and fitness is a fastgrowing sector. Two of the four units of this course are externallyassessed.
In Unit 1, the examined unit, you will explore how the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory systems function and the fundamentals of the energy systems.
For Unit 2, you will interpret lifestyle factors and health screening data to develop and justify a fitness training programme and nutritional advice for a client. You will interpret the data using knowledge and understanding from your studies and apply your specialist knowledge and skills.

This course comprises four units, three of which are mandatory and two of which are assessed externally.
Unit 1 (M) Anatomy & physiology
Unit 2 (M) Fitness training and programming for health, sport and wellbeing
Unit 3 (M) Professional development in the sports industry
Unit 7 Practical sports performance
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Entry requirements
GCSE at Grade 5+ or BTEC/NCFE at Merit+ in a sport related discipline, as well as 4+ in GCSE Core Science and 4+ in GCSE English. Candidates without a Level 2 qualification in a sportrelated discipline will be considered through interview.

In addition to the sportspecific content, you will develop transferable and higher order skills that are valued by higher education providers and employers. The study of sport particularly encourages the development of skills and behaviours such as teamwork, leadership, performance analysis, resilience, evaluation, analysis and synthesising concepts.
