Course Summary
Students will cover a range of units which will be assessed both internally and externally. There will also be written examinations.
An introduction to the sport sector through applied learning that supports progression to higher education. It forms part of a programme of study that includes other vocational or general qualifications.
Course Details
Mandatory:
Unit 1: Anatomy and physiology
Students explore how the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory systems function and the fundamentals of the energy systems.
Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being
Students explore client screening and lifestyle assessment, fitness training methods and fitness programming to support improvements in a client’s health and well-being.
Unit 3 Professional Development in the Sports Industry Students explore the knowledge and skills required for different career pathways in the sports industry. Learners will take part in, and reflect on, a personal skills audit, career action plan and practical interview assessment activities.
Optional:
Unit 5 - Explores the principles of fitness testing and examines the factors affecting the selection and administration of tests, including validity, reliability, practicality and suitability.
Unit 6: Sports Psychology this unit covers the psychological dimensions of sport and introduces psychological techniques that can be used to enhance sporting performance.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
There are 2 exams and 2 units of coursework.
Entry requirements
GCSE Grade 4 and above in maths and English.
