Course Summary
The Extended Certificate in Sports Coaching is suitable for any student with a keen interest in Sport who want to progress to employment in the sports coaching and development sector or higher education.
The course provides potential opportunity for a host of additional sporting experiences which may incur additional costs, such as First Aid courses, coaching badges, and trips. Students will need to ensure they have Astro boots and a whistle as well.

This course covers 3 units studied over 2 years.
Careers in Sport and Active Leisure, Health, Well-being, and Sport, and Developing Coaching Skills. Students will study social, physical, geographical, and economic factors that impact sports development and participation. They will develop a knowledge and understanding of the ever-growing sports and active leisure industry and the job roles within it including sports science roles, coaching roles, and media roles. Career pathways to various roles will be explored as well as the job application process. There will be work-related learning activities throughout the course such as planning and leading PE lessons for local primary schools which will develop communication, organisation, teamwork, and leadership skills.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment is through internally assessed assignment work which may take the form of written assignments, presentations, or interviews. Students will also be expected to lead practical coaching sessions regularly to peers and external sports groups.

This course would be suitable for students who have a keen interest in sports coaching, who wish to study sport further into Higher Education, or alternatively enter employment in the sport and active leisure industry. Previous students have pursued various sport-related degrees in Sport Science, Sports Development, and PE Teaching at universities including Brighton, Chichester, and UCFB, as well as using their qualifications to gain employment in the active leisure and sports industry.
