Course Summary

BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport

This course would suit individuals that have an interest in undertaking a career in sport or health related areas such as sports nutrition, sports psychology, teaching physical education, sports therapy, sports development and sports coaching, amongst others.

The course is an extension of the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sport.

This course is equivalent to 2 A-Levels.


Course Details

Units include:

Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology (externally assessed)

Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well -being (externally assessed)

Unit 3: Professional Development in Sports Industry

Unit 4: Sports Leadership

Unit 5: Application of Fitness Testing

Unit 12: Self-employment in the Sports Industry

Unit 13: Instructing Gym-based Exercise

Unit 14: Exercise and Circuit-based Physical Activity

Plus an additional Unit

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment:

9 units of study (6 mandatory and 3 externally assessed).


Entry requirements

Entry requirements:

5 x GCSE Grades 9-4 including English.

Desirable Level 2 Pass or above in BTEC Sport but not compulsory


Interests:

Coaching, playing sport, physiology (understanding the body during exercise), psychology (the use of the mind during exercise), training to improve fitness, nutrition.

Personal attributes:

Sportsmanship, decision making, teamwork & leadership, practical ability to play sport.

Skills:

Strong communication skills, planning and organisation, performance analysis, analysis of data and trends.


Your next steps...

Employment: The sport industry is extremely large and career pathways can include: Sports Coach, Fitness Instructor, PE Teacher, Fitness Magazine Editor, Sports Scientist, Sports Psychologist, Physiotherapist.

University: Undergraduate or Foundation Degrees in a range of subjects, including degrees in Sports Studies and Business, Sports Psychology, Sports Education, Sports and Exercise Science, Sports Studies.

Higher Apprenticeships: Sports teaching assistant, leisure assistant, coaching, spectator safety, fitness instruction. There are also a wide range of National Governing Body Qualifications available.
