Course Summary

This is a two year course which will result in a single A Level. This can be taken in a combination with other level 3 courses (including A level and vocational).

If taken, students will need to choose two other level 3 qualifications and will be requested to do our mandatory enrichment programme. This programme covers a range of different employment skills, other qualifications and experiences that students can use for their post 18 destinations including the Extended Project Qualification (useful for extra UCAS points and research experience).

Course Details

There are four units in total

1. Anatomy and Physiology (External Examination)Learners explore how the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory systems function and the fundamentals of the energy systems.

2. Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (External Coursework)Learners explore client screening and lifestyle assessment, fitness training methods and fitness programming to support improvements in a client’s health and well-being.

3. Professional Development in the Sports Industry (Internal Coursework)Learners explore the knowledge and skills required for different career pathways in the sports industry. Learners will take part in, and reflect on, a personal skills audit, career action plan and practical interview assessment activities.

4- Sports Leadership (Internal Coursework)Learners study the skills, qualities and characteristics within sport. Learners will participate in leadership task and review their performance.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

60% Examination 40% Coursework

Entry requirements

Either grade 5 in GCSE physical education or Merit in BTEC level 2 sport.

A qualification in sport will enable you to study further at university or go straight into employment within industries such as leisure, coaching and sports development. This could lead to further study at university or college to enable careers in nutrition, fitness instruction, teaching and physiotherapy (with biology).
