Course Summary
The sports leaders level 3 course is in place to develop the leadership skills already gained on the Junior Sports Leadership Award (JSLA) course, completed in year 11. The higher sports leaders course is delivered over two lessons a week throughout the year. The course aims to develop student’s leadership skills through both practical and theoretical work. Students are given the opportunity to work with people of different ages and abilities and extend their organisation, communication and motivational skills as a result.
Students are expected to complete four compulsory units looking at the development of leadership skills, as well as planning, leading and evaluating practical sessions for children. In addition to this students are also expected to complete two optional units which aim at planning and leading practical activity sessions for disabled, older or people in the community. This includes the opportunity to help run disability sports events including Boccia, as well as organising a primary school Rounders event.
Overall, students on this course are expected to deliver 30 hours of leadership times as well as writing session plans and completing a learner evidence record to provide evidence of their leadership time.
