Course Summary

THE TRAVEL AND TOURISM INDUSTRY IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST AND FASTEST GROWING INDUSTRIES IN THE UK.

Course Details

This qualification includes three mandatory units and one additional unit covering the following content areas:

Travel and Tourism Industry – The travel and tourism industry in the UK is growing and is of major importance to the economy. Learners will develop the skills needed to examine, interpret and analyse a variety of statistics that measure the importance of tourism to the UK.

Global Destinations – Learners will investigate the features and appeal of global destinations.

Principles of Marketing in Travel and Tourism – Learners focus on how to develop a successful marketing plan for use by travel and tourism organisations to attract and engage customers.

Visitor Attractions. Learners develop analytical skills as they investigate the appeal of at least two visitor attractions and how they use technology and resources to encourage visitor numbers. They will look at the impact of them on local and national economies and be able to explain what makes them successful.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The course is assessed through a written exam set by Pearson (Edexcel), a written task (set by Edexcel and completed in school) and assignments (set and marked in school).

Entry requirements

4 GCSE or equivalent grades at 4 or above including a minimum of grade 4 in English Language.

Your next steps...

With further training, you could go into a career such as a Tourism Officer, Travel Agent or more general careers in the travel and tourism sector either in the UK or another country. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across a range industries are looking for, especially in the travel and tourism industry.
