Course Summary
Students will be interested in a child focussed career. The course will suit students who are interested in a course that is a mixture of coursework and examinations. Students do need to be confident in entering child care environments and interacting with children as this is a vital part of the course and they will be expected to attend a child care setting for the year 12 work experience week. Students need to be prepared to complete a large proportion of written work and to stick to strict deadlines.

Course Details
Mix of coursework and examined units studied over the 2 years for those with a interest in learning about the care and education of children from 0-8yrs.
This course has a focus on child psychology and safeguarding.

Year 12:
Unit 3 play and learning (coursework)
Unit 1 childrens development (external exam)
Year 13:
Unit 2 keeping children safe (external exam)
Unit 4 research and reflective practice in an early childhood setting (coursework)
Entry requirements
GENERIC VOCATIONAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: GCSE 4-9 in English Language & Vocational course at Level 2 Merit
SUBJECT SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Grade 4 or above in English language or Literature

Along with other courses students study they can go on to university to study child related courses such as child psychology, teaching, childhood studies and social work. Further education and apprenticeships or entering employment are also options for students.
