Entry Requirements: - Vary by course please see individual subject information on this website. We also require students to achieve at least five Grade 5s or above at GCSE for Level 3 curriculum. For our Level 2 Pathway, students need to have five Grade 3s or above, inlcuding English and Maths

Course Summary

The course is centred around the analysis of set texts from advertising, film promotion, music, newspapers, magazines and television. The media course is centred around the key concepts of media language, media representation, media industries and media audiences. To varying degrees, and in particular ways, it is similar to subjects such as Film studies, English, Business, Sociology, Psychology and IT.

What skills will you develop by taking this qualification?

Interpretation of media texts, analytical and evaluation skills. Written language, communication and vocabulary Understanding of audiences and business elements of the media.

Course Details

Modules on: Film, Gaming, TV, Advertising, Music Videos, Newspapers, Magazines, Radio, Online Media.
You will design and create your own film poster, magazine, podcast and/or website for an intended target audience (coursework).

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Two written exams (70%) and one piece of non exam assessment (original piece of coursework) (30%).
This means the majority of the work is academic and essay-based, though is also somewhat creative and uses technical skills.

Entry requirements

Grade 5 in GCSE Media or Grade 5 in GCSE English.
