Course Summary
A qualification in accounting will always be helpful – whether it's used professionally or personally. This course helps students to understand the responsibilities of the accountant and the impacts of their recommendations on the business and the wider environment.
Students will build knowledge and understanding of key concepts, principles and techniques that they can apply to real-life scenarios, developing the ability to solve problems logically, analyse data methodically, make reasoned choices and communicate effectively.
Course Details
Units include the role of the accountant in business, types of business organisation, analysis and evaluation of financial information, budget, interpretation, analysis and communication of accounting information and the impact of ethical considerations
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The course is 100% examination based. Paper 1 links with elements 1-8 and 14-18 above and is a written exam of 3 hours and worth 50% of the final grade. Paper 2 links with elements 1-3, 8-13 and 17-18 above and is also a written exam of 3 hours and worth the other 50% of the grade. Papers feature multiple choice, structured questions and extended answer questions.
Entry requirements
In addition to the general requirements for entry onto the course, students will require at least a grade 5 in English and Maths.

Accounting can provide a variety of career paths. Students can go on to study accounting at university or seek an opportunity with a financial company through an Apprenticeship Scheme. Fields of employment include Accountant, Auditor, Chartered Accountant, Forensic Accountant, Mortgage Advisor, Retail Banker, Stockbroker.
