Entry Requirements - Generally, in order to study Level 3 courses you must have achieved a minimum of five GCSE passes at grades 9 – 4, including English and maths at a grade 4 or above, or a Level 2 Pass in a relevant vocational qualification. Some A Level courses require you to have achieved specific grades in either that subject, English or maths.

For Level 2 courses you will need to achieve 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above. Both English and maths must be at grade 2 or above.

Course Summary

Biology is the study of living organisms and how these interact with each other and their enviroments. Biology is really a multidisciplinary Subject made of many different and interdependent fields. Biology explores how living systems are constructed, as well as how the develop, communicate, interact, reproduce, defend themselves, and shape the biophysical enviroment around them. Biologists are constantly looking to understand links between different disciplines of biology and in this sense evolution is a unifying concept in biology.

Course Details

This is a 2 year course. The topics we will study are Biological molecules, Cells, Organisms exchange substances with their enviroment, Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

2 x 2 hour written exams which will have a mixture of long and short answer questions.

1 x 2 hour written exam with practical techniques and critical analysis of experimental data.


Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSE grades 9-4 with GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Maths at a Grade 6 or above.
