Course Summary
BTEC National Extended Certificate in Business provides a broad business education through applied learning. This qualification will prepare students for a range of higher education courses and jobs in the business sector. It will combine naturally with a broad range of other subjects to provide access to careers in accountancy, human resources, marketing and law. Through its applied approach, the BTEC Extended Certificate is a sought after qualification for access to higher and degree apprenticeships.
Course Details
Mandatory Units
Unit 1 Exploring Business: In this introductory unit, learners study the purposes of different businesses, their structure, the effect of the external environment, and how they need to be dynamic and innovative to survive.
Unit 2 Developing a Marketing Campaign: Learners will gain skills relating to, and an understanding of, how a marketing campaign is developed.
Unit 3 Personal and Business Finance: Learners study the purpose and importance of personal and business finance. They will develop the skills and knowledge needed to understand, analyse and prepare financial information.
Optional Unit
In addition to the three mandatory units, learners also undertake Unit 8 Recruitment and Selection Process in Year 2 of the course. This involves a combination of practical and written exercises designed to give students a real insight into human resource management.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
Unit 1: Internal assessment (worth up to 24 points)
Unit 2: Written 1.5hr examination (worth up to 24 points)
Unit 3: Written synoptic 2.5hr assessment, set and marked by Pearson (worth up to 32 points)
Unit 8: Internal Assessment (worth up to 16 points)
The overall BTEC grade will be based on total points along with minimum requirements in each unit. The BTEC is awarded at Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.
Entry requirements
Sixth Form entry requirements including GCSE Business grade 5 or BTEC Business Level 2 Merit, otherwise GCSE English Literature or Language at grade 5.
