Course Summary

This Business course will give you an introduction to how the commercial world operates, ranging from small business start-ups to multinational corporations. As well as gaining business knowledge, through real and up-to-date business case studies, you will develop the skills of data interpretation and problem solving that will help you to make sound, tactical, and strategic decisions in different business environments.

Enrolling on the Business course will allow you to develop an understanding of entrepreneurs and leaders, the marketing mix, how firms manage finance, make strategic decisions, and the impact of globalisation. You will develop the skill of evaluating business strategies through regular group work and whole class discussion. There are many enrichment opportunities available to Business students which in the past have included: 2-day industry placements, business consultancy projects, the ICAEW’s Business, Accounting and Skills Competition and the International Trade Simulation as well various encounters with local and national employers and higher education providers.

Year 1:

  • Theme 1: Marketing and People
  • Theme 2: Managing Business Activities

Year 2:

  • Theme 3: Business Decisions and Strategy
  • Theme 4: Global Business

How will it be delivered and assessed?

A Level Business is assessed through three exams which include open-response questions.

Exams cover:

Marketing, people and global businesses (Themes 1 & 4)

Business activities, decisions and strategy (Themes 2 & 3)

Investigating business in a competitive environment (All four themes, with an industry/ market specific pre-released context document)

Entry requirements

At least five GCSEs graded 9-5 including English and Maths at grade 4 or above. Please note that due to subject combination rules set by the exam boards, it is not possible to study both Business and Economics at A Level.

Equipment required

There may be trips that will enrich the curriculum that may incur additional costs.
