Course Summary

This course is a 2-year programme designed to give students an overview of the Business World, looking at a variety of different industries. They will be able to look in detail at how and why businesses operate, the skills required to do so, as well as customer service and marketing whilst developing their own skills and knowledge both in and out of the classroom.

Course Details

This course is a 2-year programme designed to give students an overview of the Business World, looking at a variety of different industries. They will be able to look in detail at how and why businesses operate, the skills required to do so, as well as customer service and marketing whilst developing their own skills and knowledge both in and out of the classroom.

What Will You Study:
There are 3 Mandatory units and 1 optional. Students will be required to produce a portfolio of coursework with will be externally moderated.

Unit 1 Exploring Business
You will gain an overview of the key ingredients for business success, how businesses are organised, how they communicate, the characteristics of the environment in which they operate, and how this shapes them and their activities. You will also look at the importance of innovation and enterprise to the success and survival of businesses, with the associated risks and benefits.

Unit 2 Developing a Marketing Campaign
You will examine the marketing aims and objectives for existing products/services and understand the importance of relevant, valid and appropriate research in relation to customers’ needs and wants. You will use given market research data and other information to make recommendations about the type of marketing campaign that a business should undertake. To complete the assessment task within this unit, you will need to draw on your learning from across your programme.
Unit 3 Personal and Business Finance
This unit will provide a foundation for a number of other finance and business units and will help you to analyse profitability, liquidity and business efficiency. It will give you the knowledge and understanding to manage your personal finances and will give you a background to business finance and accounting as you progress to employment or further training.

Unit 8 Recruitment and Selection
This unit gives you the opportunity, through role play, to take part in selection interviews. They will need to be organised and prepared so that they demonstrate your communication skills in this work-related competence.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This course is a combination of examination, externally set and assessed units and internally set and assessed units.
Unit 1 Exploring Business – Internal Coursework
Unit 2 Developing a Marketing Campaign – External Controlled Assessment (3 Hours)
Unit 3 Personal and Business Finance – External Examination (2 Hours)
Unit 8 Recruitment and Selection – Internal Coursework

Entry requirements

Our preferred entry requirements are:

Students will be required to have at least 4 subjects at Level 5 and above including Level 5 English Language, a minimum of Level 4 in Maths and may have a Level 2 Merit in any BTEC subject at Level 2 or equivalent.

Students who follow this path may continue on to higher education courses, not necessarily in business related subjects, work apprenticeships or directly into the work place.
