Entry Requirements: Some courses have additional entry requirements. These can be found on the prospectus.
Level 3 - 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or higher including English and Mathematics.
Transition - 5 GCSEs at grade 3 or higher. Either English or Mathematics must be at a grade 4.

Course Summary
Why study this subject?
Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. This
course encourages learners to use creativity and imagination when applying iterative design processes to develop and modify designs, and to design and make prototypes that solve real world problems, considering their own and others’ needs, wants, aspirations and values.

Units that will be studied
The course comprises of 2 Components:
• Component 1: Design and Technology in the 21st Century
• Component 2: Design and make project set to a design brief
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment
Component 1 3hr External written examination. Design and Technology in the 21st Century 50%
Component 2 Design and make project Non-exam assessment. A sustained design and make project, based on a brief developed by the candidate’s ability to, identify, investigate and outline design possibilities, design and make prototypes, analyse and evaluate design decisions including for prototypes made by themselves and others 50%
Entry requirements
STS Sixth Form offers a broad range of A Level and Applied general qualifications that will prepare you for university or employment. To access this route, you will need to have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Maths; however, some subjects have specific entry criteria. You will study a programme that can be tailored to meet your interests and future aspirations to give you the best chance of academic success. This programme is a two-year linear course. To study four level 3 courses, you must have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 7 or above. All courses are subject to change and are not set in stone.
