Unit 3 = Non-Examined Assessment – a 4,500-word independent coursework essay on a topic of your choice
Course Details
Unit 1 The Tudors: England, 1485-1603 How effectively did the Tudors restore and develop the powers of the monarchy? How successful was foreign and domestic policy and how effective was England governed during this period? Key Focuses: Henry VII’s victory as the first Tudor, Henry VIII’s crisis in religion, Edward VI—the boy king, Bloody Mary?, and the triumph of Elizabeth I.
Unit 2 The American Dream: reality and illusion, 1945 – 1980 What challenges were faced by the USA at home and abroad as it emerged from the Second World War as a Superpower? Was the ‘American dream’ shared by all? Explore concepts such as American identity at home and abroad, anti-communism, social equality, ethnic identities and federal versus states’ rights.
Unit 3 Historical Investigation This module allows students to select a topic of their choice. Through mentoring and support lessons, students will independently research and investigate their chosen theme Use of primary and secondary source material to produce a 3,000 word investigation
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Unit 1 = 40% of A Level | 1 x 2hr 30mins examination (yr. 13)
Unit 2 = 40% of A Level | 1 x 2hr 30mins examination (yr. 13)
Unit 3 = 20% of A Level | 1 x 3,500 word essay (internally assessed)
