Course Summary
IB Design is where creativity, innovation, and rigorous problem-solving come together to shape the future. This program is more than just learning about products or materials; it’s about empowering students to become thoughtful designers and critical thinkers, equipped to make meaningful contributions in an ever-changing, technology-driven world
Course Details
The curriculum covers a rich array of topics, including:
-Human Factors and Ergonomics Understanding the relationship between humans and products.
-Sustainable Design: Learning about environmentally responsible materials and processes.
-Modelling and Prototyping: Developing hands-on skills through physical and virtual modelling.
-Innovation and Design: Exploring how ideas evolve from concept to reality, with a focus on innovation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
External assessment (60%): consists of two written exams, These test knowledge and critical thinking skills, covering topics like human factors, materials, sustainability, and innovation.
Internal assessment (40%): consists a design project in which they identify a problem, develop a solution, and bring their ideas to life through research, iterative design, and prototype development. This process fosters resilience, adaptability, and a strong sense of achievement.
Entry requirements
5 GCSES at Grade 9-4. *For those who have studied DT: Product Design, you will need a Grade 6. You will also require a Grade 5 in GCSE Maths and Science.
