Pathways Offered:
  • Level 2 Pathway - For students who still need to resit their Mathematics and English Language GCSE's to gain a Grade 4 alongside Level 2 BTECs.
  • Level 3 Vocational - For students who have gained a grade 4 in their Mathematics and English Language OR English Literature.
  • IBCP Programme - For students gaining 5 GCSE's at Grade 4 and above including Mathematics and English Language.
  • Sports Academies (Basketball/Football) - For students wishing to pursue Sport professionally alongside their studies. The academy must be taken in addition to one of the other three pathways on offer.

Number of subjects required:

  • Level 3 Pathway - Please select three Level 3 courses (BTEC or RSL)
  • IBCP Pathway - Please select two IB Diploma courses and two Level 3 Vocational courses (BTEC or RSL)

Course Summary

IB Film SL - equivalent to 0.5 A levels.

Film is a course aiming to develop students as proficient interpreters and makers of film. Through a combination of analysis of film texts, and practical exercise in film production students develop their critical thinking and craft.


Course Details

Unit 1 - Reading film

Unit 2 - Contextualising film

Unit 3 - Exploring film production roles


IA - Film reel & portfolio pages of different film roles.


How will it be delivered and assessed?

There are 2 externally assessed submissions and 1 internal assessment.


Textual Analysis (30%)

Comparative Study (30%)

IA Film Portfolio (40%)


Entry requirements

You must have at least:

4 in GCSE English Language

4 in GCSE Mathematics

4 or equivalent in 3 additional subjects
