Course Summary

Why this programme?

Studying the Employability Programme will help you to increase your self-awareness, confidence, communication skills and leaderships skills. It will allow you to develop the skills required for working with children which are useful for a multitude of job roles. It will allow an opportunity to re-sit GCSE English and Maths or take an alternative of Functional Skills in these subjects. Work experience is also available to enrich the student’s skillset in the workplace and increase likelihood of future employment.

Student profile

The Employability Programme is designed for students who are a grade 2 or 3 and therefore are below the requirements for Level 3 Sixth Form courses. This programme is at Level 2 and is designed to build the students GCSE profile to enable them to access Apprenticeships or further study if appropriate.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment

Level 2 Certificate in Working With Children in Early Years & Primary Settings

Unit 1: Child development from birth to 11 years, 11 months
Unit 2: Play and learning
Unit 3: Exploring legislation
Unit 4: The role of the childcare practitioner
Unit 5: Nutrition
Unit 6: Physical development and physical activity

Completion of professional skills record (2 placements: 1 early years, 1 primary).

BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Personal Growth and Wellbeing

5 coursework unit (no exam):

Appreciating emotional wellbeing

Investigating personal identity (self-awareness)

Developing resilient behaviour

Being financially aware

Leading an outdoor learning activity

The work experience elements are designed to build possible links with apprenticeship providers. Dependent on student results they could progress to higher education.
