Course Summary

The BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Engineering is a one-year, full-time vocational qualification designed for post-16 learners who are passionate about pursuing a career in the engineering sector. Equivalent to 1.5 A Levels, this course provides a strong foundation in core engineering principles and practices, combining theoretical knowledge with practical, work-related skills. This qualification is ideal for learners who wish to progress to: ? A second year of study leading to the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering ? An apprenticeship in engineering ? Employment in the engineering sector ? Higher education in engineering or related disciplines Mandatory Units (Core Curriculum): Learners will complete four mandatory units, which are assessed either internally or externally: 1. Engineering Principles (externally assessed) 2. Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team 3. Engineering Product Design and Manufacture (externally assessed) 4. Applied Commercial and Quality Principles in Engineering Optional Units (Examples): Learners will also complete three optional units, which may vary. Common examples include: ? Computer Aided Design in Engineering (2D & 3D CAD) ? Electronic Devices and Circuits ? Electronic Printed Circuit Board Design AND Manufacture Upon successful completion, learners can progress to: ? Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering (Year 2 of the programme)

Project Engineer or Manager This qualification is recognised by professional bodies such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), contributing to professional registration as an Engineering Technician.
