Course Summary

This vocational course is specifically designed for students aged 16+. It lasts one year and is taken as part of our level 2 pathway for students who have not yet qualified for Level 3 study.

If you are retaking GCSE English language AND GCSE Mathematics, you must choose TWO level 2 courses.

If you are retaking either GCSE English language OR GCSE Mathematics, AND you don't qualify for level 3 study, you will take all three.

Options include:

  • CTEC Digital Media
  • NCFE Sports Coaching
  • BTEC Work Skills

Course Details

Unit 1 (Mandatory/Core): Participating in Sport

Unit 2 (Mandatory/Core): Sports Coaching

Unit 3 (Mandatory/Core): Developing sporting skills and tactical awareness

There is a fourth unit that is to be confirmed.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

An internally assessed portfolio of evidence which is assessed by centre staff and externally quality assured by NCFE.

Entry requirements

To be accepted onto the level 2 pathway.

Minimum four grade 3s or above including English and mathematics are preferred.

Your next steps...

This qualification will give leaners the introductory skills to either start a career in sport or progress within employment in the sector. This qualification can also prepare learners for level 3 study and further education (level 3 at sixth form or college, which could lead to university) and gives a good introduction to the sport vocation.
