Course Summary

AQA’s A Level in Physical Education will equip learners with both a depth and breadth of knowledge, understanding and skills relating to scientific, socio-cultural and practical aspects of physical education.

Paper 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport: Written exam 2 hours, 105 marks, 35% of A Level

Section A: Applied anatomy and physiology

Section B: Skill acquisition

Section C: Sport and society


Paper 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport: Written exam 2 hours, 105 marks, 35% of A level

Section A: Exercise physiology and biomechanics

Section B: Sport psychology

Section C: Sport and society and technology in sport


Non-exam assessment: Practical performance in physical activity and sport


Internal assessment of written coursework, external moderation of performance or coaching: 90 marks • 30 % of A-level

Grade 6-9 in GCSE PE or L2 Merit in a Sport course (CNAT or BTEC) & Grade 5-9 in GCSE English. If no PE course taken Grade 6-9 in GCSE Science
