Course Summary
• A Level Physics A is an excellent base for a university
degree in engineering, maths, physics or any science related subject, from medicine and dentistry to bioengineering to work on prosthetics. A level Physics can take you into a career is astrophysics to look at space, stars and the planets. It can take you into engineering be it electrical, robotics or machinery and structures.
• A level Physics helps you demonstrate your ability to work mathematically, logically and work with abstract ideas and thoughts. It demonstrates a very high level of thinking and a devotion to your studies as to be successful a large amount of time must be invested into this subject.
A level Physics will only open doors and opportunities for you, be it in finance, the sciences, medicine, engineering or a companion qualification for another avenue of study completely unrelated.

• Measurements and their errors
• Particles and radiation
• Waves
• Mechanics and materials
• Electricity
What will I study in Year 13?
• Further mechanics and thermal physics
• Fields and their consequences
• Nuclear physics
• Plus a unit chosen by your teachers
How will it be delivered and assessed?
A2 Assessment: Three written papers
Paper 1 – 2 hours, 85 marks, 34% of the A level. On the year 12 units plus part of further mechanics.
Paper 2 – 2 hours, 85 marks, 34% of the A level. On the year 13 content not covered in paper 1.
Paper 3 – 2 hours, 80 marks, 32% of the A level. Practical skills, data analysis and the optional unit your teachers have chosen in year 13.
Entry requirements
Grade 6-6 at Combined Science or two 6 grades at triple science including a 6 in Physics and minimum grade 6 in Maths.
