Entry Requirements: Some courses have additional entry requirements. These can be found on the prospectus.

Level 3 - 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or higher including English and Mathematics.

Transition - 5 GCSEs at grade 3 or higher. Either English or Mathematics must be at a grade 4.

Why study this subject?

Physics is at the heart of many cutting edge technologies and fields. Students studying this subject will gain an enhanced knowledge of the world of physics and gain a highly regarded qualification. While not for the faint-hearted, this is an immensely rewarding and highly respected qualification with good progression routes into university and careers.

Units that will be studied

The course comprises of nine units:

• Module 1: Development of practical skills in physics

• Module 2: Foundations in physics

• Module 3: Forces and motion

• Module 4: Electrons, waves and photons

• Module 5: Newtonian world and astrophysics

• Module 6: Particles and medical physics

Assessment

Paper 1 External examination – 2hrs 15 mins covering Modules 1,2,3&5 37%

Paper 2 External examination – 2hrs 15 mins covering 1,2,4&6 37%

Paper 3 External examination – 1hr 30 mins synoptic covering all modules 26%

Additional Entry Requirements

Minimum of grade 5 or above in Mathematics and a grade 7-6 or above in Combined Science or a grade 6 in Physics
