Course Summary
Sociology is the study of society and individuals. It is suitable for students who have an open,
enquiring mind and enjoy debating contemporary issues. Students will look at a number of theoretical
and political perspectives applied to Education, Culture and Identity, Beliefs and Crime and Deviance.
A wider knowledge and understanding of the society in which we live is essential and students must
be keen on keeping up to date with the news and current affairs. As members of society all students
should come to the course equipped with some knowledge of the social world, but through the study
of sociology they will develop a deeper understanding and examine issues that directly affect life in
Britain and globally. Students will learn through debating, guided reading, discussing, essay writing, group work, videos,
and internet research.
