Level 3 - 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or higher including English and Mathematics.
Transition - 5 GCSEs at grade 3 or higher. Either English or Mathematics must be at a grade 4.

Course Summary
Why study this subject?
This course is a useful complement to any vocational or A Level course because it encourages a deeper understanding of societies` structures and institutions. Students will develop an understanding of how to effectively undertake research at a higher level. This is very useful for students wishing to go on to university or higher education.

Units that will be studied
The course comprises of three units:
• Unit 1: Education with Theory and Methods
• Unit 2: Topics in Sociology to include options from:
o Culture and identity; Families and households; Health or Work, poverty and welfare
o Beliefs in society; Global development; The media or Stratification and differentiation
• Unit 3: Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods

Paper 1 2hr written examination on unit 1 33.3%
Paper 2 2hr written examination on unit 2 options 33.3%
Paper 3 2hr written examination on unit 3 33.3%
Entry requirements
LEVEL 3 ROUTE OF STUDY
STS Sixth Form offers a broad range of A Level and Applied general qualifications that will prepare you for university or employment. To access this route, you will need to have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Maths; however, some subjects have specific entry criteria. You will study a programme that can be tailored to meet your interests and future aspirations to give you the best chance of academic success. This programme is a two-year linear course. To study four level 3 courses, you must have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 7 or above. All courses are subject to change and are not set in stone.
