Course Summary

Biology involves the study of a wide range of exciting topics, ranging from molecular biology to the study of ecosystems. Biology is never far from the headlines either. It is the forefront of medical research, cancer treatment, stem cell research, genetic libraries, conservation and novel diseases. The human genome has been sequenced and we know the complete arrangement of the three thousand million bases that make up human DNA.



Course Details

This course allows for a variety of practical investigations and applications. The main topics covered are: Biological molecules, Cells, Genetics, Variation and Evolution, Internal body systems, Biodiversity and Ecology.

  • Paper 1 - 2 hours, topics 1-4
  • Paper 2 – 2 hours, topics 5-8
  • Paper 3 – 2 hours – all topics and practical skills, including an essay question.

We also deliver a range of core practical investigations, which awards the CPAC qualification alongside A-Level grades.

Entry requirements

Grade 6-6 or above in GCSE Combined Science or Grade 6-9 in GCSE Biology. Grade 5-9 in GCSE Mathematics.
