Course Summary
Computer Science is a rapidly developing area that influences all aspects of life. An A Level in Computer Science will develop a learner’s ability to analyse, critically evaluate and make decisions. These are all vital components of ‘post school’ life, particularly relevant to Further Education, Higher Education and the workplace. Skills shortages in key areas of the digital economy mean there are many different careers available.
Course Details
Year 12: Students develop their programming skills to enable them to prepare for Paper 1, an on-screen examination. They will be required to write, adapt and extend programs, as well as answer a series of short questions about programming, data structures and logic. For the non-exam assessment, students will either solve or investigate a practical problem of their choice. Students will also develop their theory knowledge of computation and the consequences of uses of computing, alongside their programming skills, to prepare them for Paper 2 of the course.
Year 13: Continues to develop students’ programming skills and allows them to finalise their non-exam assessment. Further work will be done on completing a range of the theory topics in preparation for Paper 2 looking at the fundamentals of data representation, computer systems, computer organisation and architecture and networking.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
