Course Summary
The Level 3 Certificate Mathematical Studies qualification will consolidate students' mathematical understanding, build their confidence and competence in applying mathematical techniques to solve a range of problems and introduce them to new techniques and concepts that will prepare them for further study and future employment within a broad range of academic, professional and technical fields. Mathematical Studies aims to prepare students for the mathematical demands of higher education and work where there is a distinct mathematical or statistical element, but where the mathematical demands do not stretch to a requirement for A-level mathematics.
Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) is equivalent to half an A Level.
Course Details
This Level 3 Certificate Mathematical Studies specification aims to build on the knowledge, understanding and skills established in GCSE mathematics.
The Units covered in Core Maths are:
Unit 1 - Data Summary,
Unit 2 - Personal Finance,
Unit 3 - Estimation,
Unit 4 - Critical Analysis,
Unit 5 - Regression and Correlation,
Unit 6 - Normal Distribution,
Unit 7 - Confidence intervals
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The Certificate in Mathematical Studies is assessed through two examination papers:
Paper 1 - Units 1-3
Paper 2a - Units 4-7
Entry requirements
In order to attend Meopham Sixth Form the minimum entry requirement is 5 level 4 GCSEs, including English Language and Mathematics.
Level 3 Mathematics is a demanding course, students applying to do Level 3 Mathematics should have achieved a grade 5 at GCSE level.
