Course Summary

Our ‘Explore’ courses enable students to explore the senses and interaction through a range of different ways.

Course Details

Students learn within our Foundation and Inclusive learning department, which has specialist facilities, including a Sensory and Intensive Interaction room. This is a multi-sensory curriculum which includes:

These skills include:

  • Sensology
  • Tacpac
  • Intensive interaction
  • Sensory story massage
  • Sensory Modulation
  • Gardening
  • Arts and Crafts

Students access the local community as a resource to develop social skills, and they also get to learn within areas of the College such as Drama, Sports and Art. We work in partnership with social workers and health professionals. Once a term we set new individualised targets to monitor and review students’ progress in these areas.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The course is personalised to each student using a multi-sensory impairment baseline assessment. Students will create a portfolio of evidence to support their skill building throughout the course.

Your next steps...

Students who demonstrate continued progression in their individual targets can remain on the Explore course for up to three years, with a planned progression to Adult Social Care.
