Course Summary

Students will develop their linguistic skills alongside their understanding of the culture and society of countries where French is spoken. Communication is a vital skill and communication in a foreign language is highly desirable to both employers and universities.


Course Details

Students will study areas of French-speaking artistic culture, including Francophone music and cinema, and learn about political engagement and who wields political power in the French-speaking world. Students will study texts and films, and in Year 13 have the opportunity to carry out independent research on an area of their choice. Assessment tasks will cover listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.



How will it be delivered and assessed?

There are 3 final exams: Paper 1 (Listening/Reading/Writing), worth 50% of the grade; Paper 2 (Writing) which is worth 20%, and Paper 3 (Speaking) worth 30%. Students must study either one text and one film or two texts throughout the course.

Year 13: Aspects of French-speaking society: current issues

  • Les aspects positifs d'une société diverse - Quelle vie pour les marginalisés ? - Comment on traite les criminels

Aspects of political life in the French-speaking world

  • Les ados, le droit de vote et l'engagement politique - Manifestations, grèves – à qui le pouvoir ?
  • La politique et l'immigration


Entry requirements

GCSE grade 6 in French is required.
