Entry Requirements: - Admission to Towers Sixth Form to study A levels or BTEC equivalent will be awarded on the basis of GCSE performance. Each subject has its own entry requirements.

Course Summary

The Health and Social care sector consists of two sub sectors: Health Care and Social Care. Health Care encompasses all hospital activities, medical nursing homes and GP services. The social care sector includes residential nursing care, residential nursing facilities, residential care facilities, domiciliary care and social work. By studying for a BTEC in Health and Social Care, students can progress into work in the sector through degree programmes in nursing, midwifery, social work, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and pharmacy.

  • Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development
  • Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care
Internally Assessed Coursework:

  • Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs
  • Unit 12: Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs

How will it be delivered and assessed?

External Examinations: 2 external examinations .
Coursework: 2 units of internally examined coursework.

Entry requirements

Grade 4 in 3-5 GCSEs including Grade 4 in English or Maths

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care supports progression into further education, training or employment as it offers a mix of both theoretical and vocational learning. It can help towards a career in nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, teaching, occupational therapy, social work and the police.

Previous Health and Social Care students have gone on to study BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science, BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing and BSc (Hons) Midwifery. Other students that have immediately entered full time employment working as primary school teaching assistants and support workers in care homes.
