Entry Requirements: - Admission to Towers Sixth Form to study A levels or BTEC equivalent will be awarded on the basis of GCSE performance. Each subject has its own entry requirements.

Course Summary

This dynamic course will challenge you creatively, physically, emotionally and intellectually. It will provide you with an understanding of dance with a focus on the essential skills, techniques and disciplines needed for a career in the dancing profession. Your lessons will take place in a large, mirrored dance studio. You will perform throughout the year and in front of a sell-out audience at our annual dance showcase. We are the Lead Associate School working closely with the Internationally renowned ‘Jasmin Vardimon Company’. We have two full day workshops to make a 'dance in a day', regularly visit their purpose-built dance space, watch company rehearsals, participate in work experience, take part in creative projects, exclusive ambassador programmes and interview staff to support our unit 1 work. This link is unique and opens up exciting opportunities for our dancers. Since this new course has been offered 100% of students have achieved grades of Merit - Distinction*.

Course Details

Students will participate in workshops and technique classes, analysing their strengths and weaknesses, setting targets in order to improve their performance skills. Students will then refine their own work performing in a variety of genres. Students will develop their choreographic skills using a wide variety of stimuli working as a small company to produce dance work for performance. Students will learn professional dance repertoire to replicate and develop for performance. Students will explore the contextual features of dance and develop a critical understanding of how dance practitioners communicate themes within their work.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This course is assessed through a combination of external and internal assessments. The course is delivered through practical workshops and the use of knowledge booklets. These workbooks guide students seamlessly through the course, simplifying complex theory work and providing a place to record their progress for their reflective logs.

Entry requirements

A Level 2 qualification such as BTEC or GCSE Dance grade 4 and above is desirable. If you do not have these qualifications you will be required to audition and/or provide dance certificates to demonstrate a level of technical ability to be accepted onto the course. A GCSE English grade 4 and above is also advantageous. An Interview with the Performing Arts team.

This BTEC Dance qualification is a popular course that provides students with a range of transferable skills that can be used at both university and the workplace. Students can move onto studying Dance at university, for example: BA (Hons) Dance, BA (Hons) Dance, Performance and Teaching, BA (Hons) Dance and Community Practice, BA (Hons) Choreography and Dance, BA (Hons) Dance and Psychology.

As well as moving into professions such as Dance Teacher, Dance Performer, Dance Choreographer, Dance Movement Therapist, Dance Journalist, Dance Film Maker, Dance Company Education Specialist, Community Dance Practitioner, Dance management/administration, PE Teacher, Costume/Set Designer, Dance Project Coordinator or Administrator, Dance, Arts and/or Cultural Officer.

Previous Dance students have pursued a Dance career studying at The University of Chichester, Trinity Laban Conservatoire, University of Winchester, University of Roehampton, Italia Conti, and Emil Dale Performing Arts Academy.
