Course Summary

Studying Level 3 Art, Design and Photography enhances your knowledge and understanding of the creative arts. It is the foundation for further education in the creative field and helps to build confidence and enables you to think at a higher level, from a cultural and contextual context.

Course Details

This successful BTEC course allows you to experience many different skills and creative aspects of the field. We will explore and follow the creative process of a variety of artists and in turn students will develop a deeper understanding of their own working practice. During this course, students gain a more mature understanding of the creative arts and develop the confidence to be more explorative with their artwork, using a variety of different materials, skills and techniques. Students are also encouraged to explore and discuss ideas with their peers.

Previous students have gone on to achieve PhDs, own businesses in the creative sector, write for magazines and win prestigious awards, such as the Royal British Society of Sculptors Bursary Award, for their work.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be assessed by two internal coursework assignments and two external units:

- Unit 1: Visual Recording and Communication

- Unit 2: Critical and Contextual Studies in Art and Design

- Unit 3: The Creative Process

- Unit 12: Fine Art, Materials, Techniques and Processes

Entry requirements

BTEC: Level 2 pass in Art and Design

GCSE: Grade 4 in Art or Photography

External students must bring a portfolio of work to their admissions interview.
