Please add three Level 3 courses to your application. These can be a combination of A-Levels, BTEC AAQs or BTEC Extended Certificates. Core Maths must be an additional fourth subject.
Course Summary
Studying a National AAQ in Health and Social Care will enable learners to gain the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to prepare them for further education and/or employment within the health and social care sector and the wider workforce. Learners will study a variety of units which will develop their skills and knowledge relating to the care and safeguarding of individuals, as well as an insight to the structure and practice of care organisations.
Course Details
Year 12
• Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development
Pupils will develop understanding of growth and development across different life stages and the concept of holistic development. This includes studies on factors influencing growth, development and health; such as lifestyle, environmental, socioeconomic and/or a combination of all factors.
• Unit 3: Principles of Health & Social Care Practice
It is important to have a good understanding of principles and core values expected of NHS and social care professionals. This will be covered in this unit alongside justifying challenges and approaches that may arise when personalising care.
Year 13
• Unit 2: Human Biology and Health
Pupils will study how the body is organised into cells, tissues, organs and systems and how healthy bodily function is achieved. This unit will include focus on coronary heart disease and diabetes, and how these disorders affect the body systems.
• Unit 5: Promoting Health Education
Pupils will explore the range of additional needs that are faced by individuals, considering the effects these needs have on their wellbeing, rights and access. This unit also explores who is responsible for ensuring that everyone has the same opportunities, are treated equally and are shown respect.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
This course is assessed through two external assessments and two internally assessed coursework units.
Entry requirements
Level 2 Pass in Health & Social Care or Grade 4 in GCSE English.

WHERE NEXT?
On successful completion of this course, worth the equivalent of one A-Level, learners will be able to gain entry to university or other higher education establishments. Alternatively, pupils will be able to go straight into employment, or take up an apprenticeship within the health and social care sector or the wider workforce.
