Please add three Level 3 courses to your application. These can be a combination of A-Levels, BTEC AAQs or BTEC Extended Certificates. Core Maths must be an additional fourth subject.


Course Summary

Today’s business world is exciting, dynamic, competitive and challenging. Developing technologies have a significant impact on how businesses work and the issue of corporate social responsibility is increasingly at the forefront. Needless to say, these businesses will need people who combine sound business knowledge and understanding with strong skills in literacy, numeracy, communication and team work. These are all aspects explored in this course, alongside how to show a willingness to ‘go the extra mile’. Businesses offer a huge range of exciting and challenging career opportunities for those who have an interest in working in or running their own business well. This course is the next step to get you ready for the world of work!

Course Details

Year 12

• Unit 1 – Exploring Business

In this introductory unit, learners study the purposes of different businesses, their structure, the effect of the external environment, and how they need to be dynamic and innovative to survive.

• Unit 2 - Developing a Marketing Campaign

In this unit learners will gain skills relating to and an understanding of how a marketing campaign is developed.

Year 13

• Unit 3 - Personal and Business Finance

Learners study the purpose and importance of personal and business finance. They will develop the skills and knowledge needed to understand, analyse and prepare financial information.

• Unit 8 – Recruitment and Selection Process

Learners explore how the recruitment process is carried out in a business. The unit gives learners the opportunity to participate in selection interviews and review their performance.


How will it be delivered and assessed?

There are four units of which three are mandatory and one is optional. Two of the mandatory units are externally assessed, one as an exam and one as a controlled assessment. The final mandatory unit and the optional unit are internally assessed, coursework assignments.

Entry requirements

Level 2 Pass in Business or Grade 4 in GCSE Maths.

This course, worth the equivalent of one A-Level, will support entry to many higher education courses at University or will offer desirable skills for embarking on an employment/apprenticeship route.
