Course Summary
A-Level biology aims to prepare students with relevant, real world experiences that are interesting to learn.
We believe that Biology is fundamentally a practical subject and offer 12 required practical activities to assess skills, knowledge and understanding.
In year 12, topics 1-4 are covered and include;
1. Biological molecules
Cells
Organisms exchange substances with their environment
Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms
In year 13, topics 5-8 are covered and include;
5. Energy transfer in and between organisms
6. Organisms respond to changes in their environment
7. Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems
8. The control of gene expression
Course Details
We aim to expand students’ horizons through guest speakers, trips and with our strong connections with Benenden School.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The A level course consists of three separate papers with practical skills assessed throughout.
Paper 1
Any content from topics 1–4, including relevant practical skills (91 marks)
Paper 2
Any content from topics 5–8, including relevant practical skills 91 marks
Paper 3
Any content from topics 1–8, including relevant practical skills 78 marks
Entry requirements
Entry Requirements: ● 5 and above in English.
● 5 and above in Maths.
● 6 and above in science.
