Course Summary

Develop the professional skills and knowledge needed to become an Early Years Practitioner and start a career in the early years sector.

Course Details

You will gain an insight into a variety of aspects relating to the early years curriculum and caring for children from birth to seven years of age.

This course will cover topics such as:

  • Introduction to the role of the Early Years Practitioner
  • Child development
  • Legislation framework and professional practice
  • Play development and preparing for school
  • Equality and diversity
  • Safeguarding
  • Professional development

Alongside classroom-based learning, you will complete a work placement in an early years setting to gain practical experience and demonstrate your knowledge and skills.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be assessed through direct observation in the workplace, an e-portfolio of evidence, written assignments and tasks.

Your next steps...

Upon successful completion of the course, you can progress onto further study in early years and child care, or an Apprenticeship. You can also begin your career in an entry level job in the sector such as a nursery practitioner, classroom assistant or pre-school practitioner.
