Course Summary

The Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing is designed to build on your existing knowledge and develop the skills needed to progress within the domestic plumbing and heating industry. You’ll learn how plumbing systems work in real homes and buildings, gaining the confidence and technical understanding required for future employment or an NVQ pathway.

This course focuses on the practical and technical skills employers expect, helping you move closer to a career as a plumber or heating engineer.

Course Details

You will learn the basic skills needed to progress in the field of domestic plumbing and heating, looking at how to deal with leaking pipes, water systems and drainage.

Throughout the course, you’ll study a range of industry-relevant topics, including:

  • Health and safety at work – understanding safe working practices and regulations essential to the plumbing industry
  • Common plumbing processes – learning standard techniques used in domestic plumbing
  • Cold and domestic hot water systems – understanding installation, maintenance and fault-finding
  • Drainage systems – exploring how waste and drainage systems operate
  • Central heating systems – gaining knowledge of heating components and system operation
  • Environmental awareness – understanding sustainability and efficient water and energy use

These units provide a strong technical foundation and prepare you for the next stage of training or employment.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment will be through completing a portfolio of work, practical observations, written work and online tests.

Dedicated Work Experience opportunities are supported by our Industry Liaison Officer, who will find opportunities that are right for you. These will give you key experiences ready for your future. The course also offers opportunities to take part in national skills competitions, such as KFE4Skills, allowing you to test your abilities, build confidence and gain recognition.

In addition, you may work on community projects, like Community Week, giving you the chance to apply your skills in real-life situations while developing teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills valued by employers.
